At the Innsworth Lodge (8751) Festive Board on 26 November 2022, after their regular Meeting, the Brethren were treated to a presentation by the Widow’s Sons Masonic Bikers Association. In his reply to the Visitors’ Toast, W.Bro Harry “Riff” Blinston (the Founding President of WSMBA Wyvern Chapter) spoke about the Association and explained how it fits into Masonry in various Provinces and internationally.

The Widow’s Sons have helped to increase Masonic membership through their presence and visibility during public motorcycle events and rallies. There are Widows Sons Chapters throughout the United Kingdom and each Chapter is encouraged to sponsor, or participate in, local charity runs or events. In all cases, they strive to present a positive image of Freemasonry and the Association to the public. They have 33 active Chapters throughout the United Kingdom (with over 1000 members).  There are also Chapters in many States in the USA, in Provinces in Canada and throughout Europe.

The goals of the Association are:

  1. To introduce the pleasures of motorcycling to Masonic Brothers
  2. To raise Masonic Awareness in the world of motorcycling
  3. To support their regular Masonic Lodges through regular attendance and assisting with or attending Lodge events.

While they wear identifying regalia, or patches, the Widows Sons are not a biker gang, MC or 1% Club. Members do not wear “Back Patches” but do wear the Square and Compass on their breasts, near to their hearts; their Patch is shown below.

The Widow’s Sons always represent the Masonic Fraternity in a positive light.  They serve to raise money for charitable causes, raise Masonic awareness while attending public motorcycling events and support their regular Lodges in whatever capacity they are able.  During the Covid Lockdown many members provided basic aid by picking up and delivering shopping, prescriptions and Meals on Wheels for people in need.

If you are interested in The Widow’s Sons Association and are a Freemason in good standing, or have an interest in Freemasonry or Motorcycling, then they would be happy to hear from you.  The Gloucestershire Area Rep is Bro Tony Brookes at:
